Gatore Ki Chhatriyan
The
entrance sign reads: “Maharaja Sawai
Mansingh – II, Museum Trust, Gaitore Ki Chhatriyan.” Gatore Ki
Chhatriyan was a royal crematorium site for Jaipur's magnificent
rulers. A cenotaph was constructed in recognition of each of the more
famous maharajas cremated there. The royal cenotaph is known as
“Chhatris” (umbrella-shaped memorial). The cenotaphs are engraved
with magnificent Rajasthani cravings. The Gaitore provides a peaceful
and soothing ambiance to visitors, as it is well kept secret from the
masses of tourists. It seemed that this place is best known only among
public vehicle drivers. It is one of the most beautiful monuments in
Jaipur. I am thankful to Shailendra Sharma at Explore India Holidays
Pvt. (Golden Triangle
Tour India) for having my driver Mohd. Irfan show me this Gatore. |
